Richie Hawtin The Tunnel - how to make with DRC
Published on
If we were compiling a list of people who we think truly embody the Imaginando spirit, Richie Hawtin would definitely be included. The British-Canadian techno DJ and producer has a hunger for creativity, driven by a passion for pushing the boundaries of technology, to achieve whatever audio/visual purpose or project currently occupying his mind.
Much more than just music, Hawtin is a mastermind of sensory experiences, where art need not be restricted to one particular medium. On the visual side of things, it doesn’t hurt to have a respected graphic artist for a brother, and the seemingly inevitable collaboration between Richie and brother Matthew, has produced some predictably popular pieces together.
At the forefront of audio performance technology, Richie has pioneered the use and development of new ways to control and perform music, shaking up and reshaping our views of what a DJ can achieve. Taking things one step further is Richie’s mission to bring greater transparency to the art of DJing, in the form of his CLOSER app, allowing us to get up close and personal, to inspect the many elements of his acclaimed CLOSE live show series.
In this week’s DRC Sound Design Tutorial, Lucas takes us through ‘The Tunnel’ - Richie’s 2005 minimal techno track, by recreating its hypnotic sounds.
